The Michael P. Gordon Memorial Foundation is committed to promoting outstanding police work. Our fourth annual TRUE BLUE Awards will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2008. Last year we honored 15 officers in front of a crowd of 300 people.

By honoring officers each year with the TRUE BLUE Award, we hope to encourage the kind of work ethic that Mike Gordon had. In the words of a fellow 011 District officer, "Mike was more than just runnin' and gunnin.' He ate, slept and breathed the police life style. He was the first to work each day, hanging out in the locker room prepping his gear as well as his mind. He came ready to go, seldom ate lunch or missed an opportunity to get involved." Officer Gordon was beloved by his fellow officers for his tirelessness, enthusiasm, loyalty and dedication to the department and the community. He was characterized by his partner as a "Super Cop," the example given is that he made 44 felony arrests in the 8 week period before his death.

The award is based on the following criteria: An outstanding arrest. An act of valor. An outstanding act of kindness, understanding, compassion or courage. Significant and/or continuous work in an outside program or service to the community. An example of sharing Mike's passion for the job as described above.

The winners receive a keepsake trophy and a prize valued at $500.
